Why do I Need a Savior?

Share

We are all sinners. We need a savior because we all rebel against God. We all break His laws. The best example is the 10 commandments.

Ten Commandments

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

Worship God alone and put Him first in your life. Exodus 20:3

  1. You shall not make for yourself an idol.

Do not make or worship idols or images as gods. Exodus 20:4–6

  1. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

Treat God’s name with reverence and respect. Exodus 20:7

  1. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Set apart the Sabbath day as holy. Exodus 20:8–11

  1. Honor your father and your mother.

Show respect and honor to your parents. Exodus 20:12

  1. You shall not murder.

Do not unlawfully take another person’s life. Exodus 20:13

  1. You shall not commit adultery.

Remain faithful in marriage. Exodus 20:14

  1. You shall not steal.

Do not take what belongs to someone else. Exodus 20:15

  1. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Do not lie about others or give false testimony. Exodus 20:16

  1. You shall not covet.

Do not desire what belongs to someone else, including their spouse or possessions. Exodus 20:17

We know we have broken at least one of these, most likely several of them. We are flawed and easily sin against God. Our own conscience convicts us. We feel guilty over things.

What is Salvation?

Salvation is having a personal relationship, a friendship with God. It’s knowing God and walking with your creator. He wants to be our friend. He wants a personal relationship with us. He will be the best friend ever. He will never leave us, no matter what we do or what happens in our life.

God’s Way Back

He provided the way back to Him. We are broken and can’t find our way back. He came to bring us back. He paid the price for us. He took our punishment for our rebellion and the laws we have broken. He took it on Himself so we could take on His righteousness. He was sinless and blameless, but He exchanged it for our sin. He took our guilt and shame so we could be free and covered by His grace and love. He loves us that much.

Forgiveness

He offers forgiveness and a new start with Him. When we accept His free gift of salvation, we are saved forever. No matter how much we still struggle with sin and mess up, God loves and forgives us. Nothing will separate us from Him.

God’s Gift

All we need to do is believe God. Nothing we do apart from believing will ever cover our sin and make us right with God. He made the way and provided the remedy for our condition and brokenness. It’s His free gift He offers everyone. All we need is to accept it.
